There are many tourist activities to enjoy in and round Gonubie Gonubie is a rapidly growing, pleasant and relaxed coastal town incorporated in the ‘Greater East London’. Gonubie’s original crest, ‘First Impressions are Lasting’, depicts the sun rising over the sea, symbolizing it’s ideal location beside river and sea. Unspoilt riverine and coastal indigenous flora and fauna can be seen along the Gonubie River, the sand dunes and the vlei (wetland) area of the Gonubie Nature Reserve. Along the ocean side of the primary dune, almost 500 m of elevated timber broadwalk allows all ages to view the spectacular ocean – often visited by schools of dolphin and whales. The boardwalk leads to an exceptionally attractive tidal pool, which together with the swimmers in the ocean, surfers, sailboarders, fisherman and returning ski boats offer a compendium of visual delights to the onlooker. NATURE Gonubie Nature Reserve ATTRACTIONS Flea / Craft Markets Are held twice a month (and more frequently during the holiday season) in front of the municipal offices, at which a surprising variety of products indicate a pleasing quality of creativity among the participants. The Gonubie Festival Increases each year and is supplemented by annual church bazaars all of which create a community with it’s own identity.
