Caledon, ‘Capital of the Overberg’, is situated at the foot of the Swartberg mountains and is well known for it’s hot mineral springs and exquisite wild flowers. The town is situated in a rich agricultural area that produces barley, wheat, onions and wool. Caledon is also famous for it’s abundant fynbos and South Africa’s national bird, the Blue Crane is found in this area.

Cape Town 110 km, Hermanus 40 km, Villiersdorp 47 km, Swellendam 91 km. Altitude: 300 m above sea level. Average Temperatures: Summer 10°c – 25°c, Winter 5°c – 19°c. Average Rainfall 500 mm per year. Mountains: Klein Swartberg. Rivers: Bath River from Hot Springs, Riviersonderend River. Banks: Absa, Standard bank, Boland (ATM).

HISTORICAL VIEW

Caledon Museum

Is housed in two buildings, the old Masonic Lodge and a Victorian house. Exhibits reflect the heritage and development of the Caledon community.

Holy Trinity Church

Designed by Sophie Gray and consecrated in 1855. The church is still in use.

Museum Shop

Situated in the Town Hall. Features home-baked goods, arts and crafts, antiques and other bric-a-brac, as well as an art gallery.

NATURE

Victoria Wild Flower Garden & Reserve

Spectacular fynbos (most species are represented) can be seen along a 10 km hiking trail leading to Window Rock. There are numerous water features, lawns, picnic spots and pathways throughout the 56 ha of indigenous trees and plants.
