Dinner is available by prior arrangement. | Timber Lodges Our eight timber lodges can accommodate two to six guests each (maximum of 28 adults and 16 children, sharing). Children are welcome and if you would like to take a break from cooking, our Restaurant serves scrumptious breakfasts and fine country cuisine for dinner. Children under the age of 7 years are accommodated at half price and must be under strict supervision of parents and only by prior arrangement of management. | The Timber Lodges and the main Manor House are located on either side of the scenic road leading to the Lone Creek, Bridal Veil and Horse Shoe Falls. The double storey timber lodges consists of four units each: two downstairs (B-units, suitable for two guests) and two upstairs units (A-units, suitable for a family of four or five). Fly-Fishing With 200 metres of river frontage, the Lone Creek River Lodge is perfectly situated for trout fishing. The Sabie Trout Angling Club stocks 7 km of the Sabie River with rainbow and brown trout to supplement the natural breeding population in the river. This section of the Sabie River is arguably the best river fly-fishing venue for trout on public waters in Mpumalanga. Sightseeing Sabie and the surrounding area is well known for its pristine mountain streams and spectacular waterfalls such as the Lone Creek, Bridal Veil, Mac Mac and Forest Falls. Well known panoramic sights in the area include Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon, God's Window and Long Tom Pass. On a more historic note, the 125-year old gold mining town of Pilgrim's Rest, the Long Tom cannon used by the Boer commandos against the British forces during the Anglo-Boer War, the last resting place of Maria Shires, and the only Forestry Museum in the country, are all well worth a visit. Horse Riding Experience some pleasant outdoor equestrian moments riding through the forests along the Sabie River. All rides will be accompanied by a guide who knows the plant, animal and bird life guests will see along the way. The guide will be able enlighten guests on the forest industry and the interesting history of the area. The horses are well-trained and are specially selected for this type of riding. All levels of riders will enjoy them. The distance that will be traveled will depend on the rider's ability and the weather.
Bird Watching Situated on the escarpment between the cool Highveld and the warm Lowveld, the evergreen montane forest and grassland habitat around Sabie is host to a unique combination of bird species from both regions. Birders will be able to tick off numerous new sightings, such as the elusive Bush Blackcap, the endangered Blue Swallow and the colourful Narina Trogon. Sabie offers a range of short (few hours) to grueling three or more-day hiking trails. For a more relaxed experience, a number of pleasant walks along the Sabie River or through cool, shady forests is part of the Sabie experience. DirectionsDriving Directions to Sabie:
From Pretoria or Johannesburg take the N4 / N12 towards Witbank and continue past Middelburg to the Belfast turnoff.
If the weather is good, turn off into Belfast and continue with the R540 through Dullstroom and Lydenburg, and then with the R37 - via the Long Tom Pass - to Sabie.
If it is a rainy day with low-hanging cloud-cover or mist, continue with the N4 past Machadodorp and Waterval Boven, or take the alternative N4 route via Schoemans Kloof. Turn left on the R539 (signposted Sabie and Sudwala). Turn off right just before Sudwala Caves and continue with the R539 to the R37 T-junction. Turn left onto the R37 and then right at the next T-junction, 10 km from Sabie. |
